From local legends to national heroes: shining a spotlight on the taxi and private hire drivers making a difference every day.
With 40 years of supporting taxi and private hire drivers across the UK, Acorn Insurance has launched the Acorn Taxi Hero Award, a new initiative designed to recognise the taxi drivers who make a positive difference to the lives of their passengers and local communities every day.
The award follows an Opinion Matters survey of 2,000 UK adults, commissioned by Acorn Insurance, which highlights the important role taxi drivers play across the nation. According to the findings, 82% of UK adults believe taxi drivers are important to their local community, while 44% think taxi drivers do not receive the recognition they deserve for the role they play. The study also found that 58% of those surveyed have relied on a taxi driver during an important or difficult moment in their lives.
Despite this, many of these acts of kindness go unnoticed.
Ash Coakley, Head of Taxi Insurance at Acorn Group, said: “Almost everyone has a story about a taxi driver who has gone the extra mile. It might be getting someone home safely late at night, helping an elderly passenger with their shopping, returning a lost wallet or phone, supporting a local charity, or being a familiar and trusted face in their community.
“Those moments often happen without any recognition, and we want to help change that.”
The Acorn Taxi Hero Award has been created to shine a spotlight on these contributions and celebrate drivers whose actions have had a meaningful impact on others.
Nominations have now closed. Regional winners will be announced from 26th October, with the national winner announced on 11th November.
